WOW! 2019 is off to a great start after our January meeting with Linda and Carl Sullivan from Colourwerx! Their presentation of quilts with vivid colors and modern designs was motivating! I loved their stories about the path they’ve taken in life that brought them to this point.
Our February 2nd regular meeting day is full of opportunity for involvement in your guild. Multiple choice for how much you want to participate. This month’s meeting and earlier activities will take place at Mountain Shadows Mobile Home community’s clubhouse located at 4040 Piedmont Dr, Highland. Just let the gate attendants know you are there for the quilt event at the clubhouse and they’ll direct you in.
We’ll start our day at at 9:00 AM for a Sit and Sew, managed by our Fundraiser Chairperson Laura Greene, for the purpose of starting to produce items that will be offered for sale later in the year. In particular we’ll be working on fabric coaster sets on this day, but any projects are welcome. Keep in mind that all themes for the coasters, and other items we’ll make during the year, are welcome. We can have fun and be creative while we produce sell-able items with a broad appeal.
If you’re participating in Laura’s morning sit-and-sew coaster craft project, supplies you will need to bring are:
- Holiday fabrics (or greens or reds) along with white and cream fabric – Alternately you can bring 5″ squares in the aforementioned colors
- Batting Squares or scraps – 5″ pieces needed for the coasters
Laura also has a holiday tree runner project which, if you’re interested, requires the following materials:
- 16 – 5″ squares for background
- 2 – 4″ squares for background
- 8 – 5″x 9″ rectangles for trees
- 2 – 4″ x 2″ rectangles for trunks
- 10″ x 50″ piece of batting
- 10″ x 50″ piece for backing
If you plan to come early to sew we’ll be posting ideas to bring for a potluck lunch. A lunchtime board meeting is planned at noon, and as you know all guild members are welcome to join in. Setup for the guild meeting will start at 1:00, at which time the Sit and Sew will wrap up.
Next up in the afternoon is our February Guild meeting that will follow our regular schedule. Open at 1:30 with a meeting start at 2:00. The meeting is going to be fun and interactive. We will be improving our improv skills with a painting activity that will be led by our own artistic Lynn Hanna. Hint; there are Blindfolds involved! Please wear, or bring, clothing or an apron for painting, just in case, and step outside your comfort zone with us!
Bring your Show and Share and we’ll see you there. Contact me or any of the board if you have any questions.
And now I’m off to Road! Make sure if you go to stop by the Information Booth in the lobby to sign-in on the available iPads for the Guild Attendance Challenge!
