May Meeting Information

Our next guild meeting will be Saturday May 4th and we will meet again at the Riverside Main Library, 3581 Mission Inn Ave, Riverside, in the Auditorium room on the second floor. Ruthann helpfully provided information regarding a nearby parking structure that is available if parking around the library itself is full.  The parking structure is located at 3743 Orange St and looks to be a nice short walk from the library, please see the map here. Parking is free on Saturdays. We start socializing at 1:30 with a meeting start time of 2:00.

The program this month is our own Kim Wingert presenting “Community and Creativity; A History of Women and Quilting”.  Kim debuted this program two years ago at the Upland Library for Women’s History Month and we are excited to have her bring this entertaining and insightful presentation to our guild.

Laura will be collecting quilts for our exhibit at the Chaffey Community Museum of Art.  Quilts need to be submitted on Saturday May 18th.  The display will hang from May 23rd to July 20th and the museum hours are Thursday through Sunday 12:00PM to 4:00PM. You can visit their website at: https://www.chaffeymuseum.org/.  If you have a quilt, or two, or other item, that you wish to submit but will not be at the May meeting please contact Laura to make arrangements. There is a brief form to complete to go with your quilt and Laura will have copies available at the meeting.  Or if you plan to deliver your submissions yourself you may download and print the form here.

Our May Board Meeting will take place after the guild meeting at Shelley Wardrop’s home, a short 2.5 miles from the library at 1979 Prince Albert Drive, Riverside.  All guild members are welcome to attend.

Remember your name tag for a chance to win a fat quarter and bring any recent finishes for Show and Share.

We have some exciting announcements for this month’s meeting and hope to see everyone there!

April Guild Meeting

The adventure continues! The April 6th guild meeting will be held at the City of Riverside Main Library at:

3581 Mission Inn Avenue
Riverside, CA.

It’s even easier to find than last month’s location. From the 91 Fwy take the Mission Inn Ave exit and go West about three blocks, the library is on the right.  All parking is FREE on Saturdays. We’ll be in the ‘auditorium’ upstairs, there is an elevator. More information regarding the location can be found here! Click on Hours and Locations and on Main Library on the map.

We will be viewing the creations from the Board Game challenge.  Linda Rasmussen will curate the display with her positive feedback.  However, if you prefer that your piece is not part of Linda’s presentation you will have the opportunity to opt out while still showing your challenge to the guild.

Once again there will have available free, yes, FREE fabric from the generous donation made to our guild. Included will be a selection of larger quantities, 4 to 11 yards, for backings or quilt tops. All quilt shop quality! Pick up some supplies for charity quilts or items for our sale this year.

We are looking forward to your input regarding this site too.

See you there!

A message from Gayle – Important Meeting Information for March!

The Quest Is On!

Join us on March 2, 2019 as our search for a better meeting location commences!

On February 10th I was finally able to pry the information out of the representative at City of Grand Terrace and discover that, once again, we could not have the community room for our regularly scheduled guild meeting.  We have no idea when they may have planned to tell us, on March 1st perhaps?

Thanks to the input of guild members we have been able to secure the meeting room at the La Sierra branch of the Riverside City Library.  This is not the library building we met at last May.

Please put this address in your phone for the La Sierra branch;
4600 La Sierra Ave, Riverside.

We will be conducting an efficient Board Meeting at 12:30 PM, with our regular Guild Meeting to follow at its usual time, set up by 1:30 with our meeting at 2:00.  Our own Alison Cutler will be presenting her Transitional Quilter talk with a showing of her quilts.  Her journey ought to be interesting, Alison’s quilts are amazing.   Be sure to bring quilts for Laura to collect and hang at the Upland Library for Women’s History month.  All quilts submitted need a standard hanging sleeve.

In order to fully examine the options available we have booked a meeting room at the Riverside Main Library for our guild meetings of April 6th and May 4th. The address for that location is:
3581 Mission Inn Ave, Riverside.

We will post and send out additional reminders as those dates get closer.

Our guild is a collaborative effort and the opinions of our members matter.  I apologize for the inconvenience the location changes create, but the insecurity of our schedule at Grand Terrace continues to make planning difficult and chaotic.  Please plan to join us at both Riverside Library locations so that we have input from as many guild members as possible as we make choices for a future, stable, location.

You Spoke and We Listened

ears

We heard that some of you had concerns about meeting at The Garcia Center in San Bernardino.  We also heard that some declined attending altogether due to the location being in a rough neighborhood.

So we searched and searched for a new meeting site that would be safer, centrally located, and waive the rental fee.  Well, good news!  We negotiated an agreement with the City of Grand Terrace to use their Community Room.  The building isn’t open on Sundays, so we switched our meeting day to the first Saturday of each month.  We meet at the same time as before, 2:00-4:00.

There is plenty of parking in the back of the building.  The entrance is around the front on the side facing Barton Road.  Our room is right next to the Library.  Come early to chat before the program starts.
