February Speaker

Brenda Gael Smith, Serendipity Patchwork & Quilting

Our general meeting guest speaker, Brenda Gael Smith, delivered an inspirational program, “Driven to Abstraction,” beginning with her brief bio with photos beginning with her childhood in Australia, through her study of law at Washington State University. She took us on a tour of her studio, showed photos of her first quilt, made from seersucker, and the baby quilts that redirected her career from Law to quilting. She shared how nature inspires her modern geometric and linear quilt designs.

In her workshop on Sunday, Brenda guided us through several ways to make improvisational triangles, squares, rectangles, and hexies. She also taught us clever ways to join improve piecing and shared her inspiration and techniques for many of her curated quilts.

New website launched for the national MQG!

For those of you that are current, paid members of the Inland Empire Modern Quilt Guild chapter, your annual dues also include access to the national Modern Quilt Guild’s website  located here.  The national MQG website is a fantastic resource, offering a wealth of quilting information including patterns, webinars and numerous articles.

Today, the MQG lunched a brand new website, packed full with even more modern-quilting resources!  One new addition is a networking feature called ‘Social Circles’.  While they are just now up and running with this brand new website, we’d like to encourage you all to take a minute to respond to the email that you will receive to your registered email with the MQG.

Please make sure you check your spam/junk folder as the email may end up there.  You’ll need to essentially ‘reset’ your existing MQG password if you had one previously through the link they provided in the email to gain access to the new website.

In the event you have any issues or questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us!
