June Meeting Recap and Workshop Opportunity

What an Inspirational meeting we had in June! In her lecture, “Spontaneous Creation and Inspiration”, our guest speaker, Sheila Frampton Cooper, shared her early artistic endeavors and quilting journey which started with the “Linus Project”. She took us through her move abroad, the evolution of her improvisational art and quilts, and her hand dyed fabrics. She showed many of her beautiful quilts in different stages of development giving us a clue into her upcoming workshop. You can see more of Sheila’s wonderful quilts and art work on her website zoombaby.com

After Sheila’s lecture, We Celebrated our 6th Birthday!!! Thank you to our President, Candy Scott who spoiled us with delicious mini bundt cakes for all!

Congratulations to our new member Barbara Dawson, our membership raffle winner.

April Meeting Recap and Important Dates

All About Curves!

Our April meeting was in person and well attended! We had so much fun learning to sew curves! Guild secretary, Lynn Hanna, taught us to make gentle improve curves by overlapping two pieces of fabric, cutting a gentle curve via rotary cutter, and then sewing with right sides together. It was really that simple! Programs Vice President, Laura Greene, showed us how to turn fabric under for appliquéd curves using card stock for a pattern and aluminum foil for turning the fabric. We all left the meeting having mastered rolling hills and beautiful sunsets. These new skills are sure to help us with our July Round About Challenge .

Block of the Month

Evie revealed the April Block of the Month (BOM), and explained that her inspiration for this year’s BOM program comes from modern architecture. Read more about the BOM Here. You will find all the BOM patterns in Member’s Corner.

Upcoming Workshop: Mini Mid-Mod Quilts

WHAT

These charming little quilts are inspired by Mid-Century Modern design, and are a great skill-building project to learn a number of quilting techniques.

Work small, Work smart, look great.

3 hours: You will start with a simple, modern color palette of neutral fabrics with a flash of color. Clean lines combined with simple design give each tiny composition a sophisticated feeling. Since you are working very small, this is a great project for using small scraps and bits of special fabric.

Participants will learn the quilt-as-you-go method, and a PDF materials and supplies list will be emailed in advance. Hand stitching adds a sleek, linear element. Finishing techniques will be demonstrated.

ZOOM WORKSHOP DETAILS

  • Select a range of neutral fabrics (all light, medium or dark), and a bright accent color.
Solids, and subtle, small scale prints or textures work best.
  • Cut cotton batting and backing fabric into 5″ squares.
  • Cut a selection of the neutral fabrics into small strips (sizes will be provided).
  • Cut a small amount of the bright accent color fabric.
  • Learn the quilt-as-you-go technique, working from the inside out.
  • Explore strip piecing and leaving the raw edges on the outside for extra texture.
  • Trim your small quilt blocks and stay stitch the edges.
  • Learn about hand stitching, and experiment with adding your own design.
  • Sew the backing onto the top of your mini quilts, leaving a space for turning.
  • Turn and press, then do a final stitching around the perimeter

A complete PDF supply list, plus step-by-step notes and templates will be emailed to each participant. This is an all-levels class and class size is limited to 24 attendees to ensure one-on-one time.
